It turns out my router was the limiting factor in my previous speedtest results.
As you can see, it is possible to get > 1 Gigabit/s with the right hardware.
This result is using a different virtualised router (Sophos XG) which runs Linux instead of FreeBSD, and therefore doesn’t encounter the same performance issues with PPPoE. Connected with 2.5Gbe LAN.
